Natalie Audley. Biography

I have worked in publishing for the last

six years, beginning as a Waterstones Bookseller before working in several independent publishing houses in London.

Outside of my freelancing I have worked on HOZ campaigns for Michelle Paver's Wakenhyrst, and on launches for Sally Gardner, Ben Okri and Dan Jones. I have also worked on selling in at Titan Books for Paul Tremblay, Christina Henry and VE Schwab.

At University, I have extensively studied literature, novel writing and plays. I have a BA and Masters in English and Creative Writing, and for my thesis I was tutored by Philip Hensher. I have completed a playwriting course at Brighton Theatre Royal Young Writers Scheme with Dinos Aristidou. My playwriting has been shortlisted by The Bruntwood and the Papatango Prizes, and I have been awarded several grants to stage my plays.

I have also attended writing courses with prominent authors such as William Ryan and Marcus Sedgewick. In these courses I have mastered the fundamentals of novel writing and playwriting: how to structure storytelling and develop characters and dialogue, as a means of enriching a tale.

I have founded my own theatre company to produce my plays, Audley and Co Productions. In the last eight years I have produced, written and directed eight plays at Brighton, Camden and Edinburgh Fringes. I also wrote, shot and produced a short film whilst studying at Met Film School. For the last three years I have worked as a reader and reviewer for one of most successful new writing venues in London.

My experience of working as a writer makes me sympathetic to the difficulties, as well as the realities and joys, of being an author. All of this literary and commercial experience can give you an edge in developing your own story, novel or play.
